Akec Makur Chuot, the 2024 Amari Gala Trailblazer of the Year winner, Retired AFLW Hawthorn FC player, has dominated the sporting scene as an elite athlete, entrepreneur and speaker for women within the sporting industry. Born in South Sudan, Makur Chuot spent nine years of her childhood in Kakuma, a Kenyan refugee camp, before arriving in Australia at the age of 12.

Previously signed to Richmond FC, Akec has played a total of 12 games, adding to the six she played at Fremantle in the inaugural AFLW season.

Akec is currently an Ambassador for Cadbury Australia and Telstra, using her platform to motivate young Female athletes and aspiring young athletes to 'Get In The Game'. Additionally, Akec has modelled for the likes of Witchery and Lululemon. On top of her incredible vast career Akec is also the CEO of Safari Boutique Australia, an online shopping boutique offering African inspired accessories and home wears.
